Immunisation

Hepatitis A and B are caused by infection with the Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) and Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). The diseases are usually self limiting but in rare cases may lead to severe complications or chronic infection.

Children are usually infected with HAV as it is spread by contaminated food and water. HBV is usually spread through body fluids. Vaccination is the best method of protection against both forms of Hepatitis.

We offer Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B Vaccinations for infants, children, adults and for those in high risk groups.

Who should get Hepatitis A vaccine?

  • All children between 12 months and 23 months
  • People with chronic liver disease
  • People who take blood clotting drugs
  • People who use illegal drugs

Who should get Hepatitis B vaccine?

  • People who use needles to inject drugs
  • People who are not monogamous
  • People who live with someone who has Hep B
  • People who work with blood or blood products
  • People with end stage kidney disease
